A dissolved municipality, Roxbury was one of the first towns in Massachusetts Bay Colony. It’s name was originally “Rocksberry”, for the area’s rocky terrain. It became a neighborhood of Boston in 1868. Roxbury is ripe with community gardens and green spaces, and is also well known for its flourishing arts community. Nubian Square (formerly Dudley Square) is Roxbury’s foremost commercial district that features a wide variety of small businesses, retail stores, movie theaters, unique restaurants, and the Dudley MBTA orange line Station which also offers bus service.
